What a Float Tank Taught Me About Leadership

Last year, I had the pleasure of taking a really good 6-month leadership program called the Leadership Effectiveness Initiative (LEI).

The Executive Coaches that facilitated the program stressed the importance of working on a strategic plane and avoiding the pitfalls of the reptilian brain. One of the techniques mentioned that I find to truly be a cornerstone to this approach, is setting aside time to reflect several times throughout the week.

Today I enjoyed a 90-minute float session within an isolation tank. Who knew floating on salt water in pure darkness, isolated from sound and distraction for well over an hour, would be such a game changing experience.

It took about 10 minutes to get settled before I found myself lost in deep thought; drifting towards new insights that might have typically passed by unnoticed.

Best said, a float session can provide that clarity and calming state-of-mind needed to navigate those day-to-day challenges as an effective leader. I highly recommend!
